Flores - Bus Ride from Labuanbajo to Bajawa

We took a local bus from Labuanbajo to Bajawa, about 60 miles away as the crow flies. The topography here is very mountainous making the roads constant slow going switchbacks and the journey took 11 hours.

Suburbia in Flores

Fellow passenger

The bus touted having a nitrous oxide system, but it must have been broken that day.

The wildest character on the bus

This guy had a machete decorated in the colors of Christmas. He jumped on the bus fed everyone rambutans (a tropical fruit), and erupted in laughter when in reference to his knife I quoted Crocodile Dundee (you know the phrase).

Got a flat tire outside of a RUSTIC village.

Banana tree

Sam in the latest 3rd world fashion

While the flat was being fixed I brought out the digital camera. The village locals had never seen one and were very excited to see digital images of themselves.

Here's one such family

And here's their palace.

These kids were very afraid of the camera, and every time I pulled it out they ran for their lives. I think they thought it was a gun. Their mother on the other hand was very pleased to see the photos.
