Carnival in Oruro

When the time for Carnival came around I sadly was not in Brazil, but Bolivia has its own celebration. Its largest and most famous parade is in Oruro. The best day for the party is Saturday with a parade of about a 30,000 dancers and a crowd of over half a million (very small in comparison to Brazil, but still a damn fine time). I spent most of the day throwing water balloons at the people on the opposite side of the road (my aim was severely off that day and sadly it seemed that the only people I could hit were either old woman or babies) .

Dancers and a big brass band
More dancing
And more dancing
My favorite kind of dancing
Me in my battle suit - prepared for water balloons and foam spray
Our enemies across the road
This kid kept spaying me with water and he finally got his come-up-ins
Me after a foam battle - this stuff really really burns when it gets in your eyes
The dancing started at 8 Am and didn´t stop until 9 Pm - it gets very very monotonous - thank God for the on-going water fight and beer.
